Of Deserts and Desertion

Footprints. They ask and tell all.

"In the morning, while it was still very dark, he got up and went out to a deserted place, and there he prayed" (Mk 1:35).

"And after he had dismissed the crowds, he went up the mountain by himself to pray. When evening came, he was there alone" (Mt 14:23).

"Now during those days he went out to the mountain to pray; and he spent the night in prayer to God" (Lk 6:12).

Jesus walked; into the desert, on top of a mountain, out to the deserted places. In the morning, during the day, at evening time, and over night, Jesus went to be alone with His father.

We seek the deserted places too; into the worldly things; on top of each other; out to the margins of truth and love.

He prayed. His footprints became knee prints.

We ran. Stop running. Let God in.

Go to the desert of contemplation.

Pray for us O Holy Apostles! Help us to return to Christ in prayer!
