St. John the Baptist, Prophet and Forerunner of Christ, pray for us that we too may become burning and shining lights (John 5:35). You interceded for all humankind when you accepted the call to Baptize Jesus; allowing us to hear the voice of the Father and witness the work of the Holy Spirit. Help us to embrace the same asceticism that prepared you to be the "voice of one crying out in the wilderness," making "straight the way of the Lord" (John 1:23).
