Spiritual gifts are freely available to us all. But we must be spiritual in order to receive them.
What does that mean?
Prayer is the Divine Language. Sometimes we say things and sometimes we ask for things. Most of the time, however, we should sit in silence and stillness; so as to open ourselves to the eternal penetration of God's energies throughout our bodies, minds, and spirits.
What happens when we don't pray?
Communication is cut off between us and God. When this happens, we can not know what spiritual gifts he has for us and how to use them to accomplish His will.
St. Paul says this well: "Those who are unspiritual do not receive the gifts of God’s Spirit, for they are foolishness to them, and they are unable to understand them because they are discerned spiritually" (1 Corinthians 2:14).
What happens when we pray?
The everlasting God of love and mercy, the one who creates, redeems, and sanctifies, offers us everything we need for the journey into an eternity with Him.
We simply have to commune with Him, in prayer, to gain understanding and courage.
Meditate with Him in silence and stillness.
